The Zeal of Zurich

Hello Everyone,

We hope that you are having a great week.  It has been a beautiful week thus far in London.  Ann flew to Rome this morning for work and comes back on Friday afternoon, and we are looking forward to a relaxing weekend at home.  We have to get our flat cleaned and replenish the wine and liquor supply because Steve and Ann Knapp arrive on Tuesday!!!  I am so excited to see them.  The last time that I saw them was when I drove Jack to St. Louis in the middle of December to drop him off.  I can't wait for them to see our life here in London.  We have some great restaurants already booked and the four of us are spending next weekend in Paris.

We had a fantastic trip to Zurich this last weekend.  Beyond the obvious fact that it is a banking haven for the wealthy around the world, it is an amazingly picturesque city situated on the tip of Lake Zurich and just about 20 miles from the Swiss Alps.  The lake feeds fresh water into a river that runs through the heart of the city.  We had a great time just meandering through the small city streets and taking in the views of the lake and the Alps in the distance.  The glory of the city is not in museums and churches, but in the architecture and panoramas, and in the adventurousness of the people.  Everywhere you turned, there was another person cycling or running or sailing or kayaking.  We took a boat ride on Saturday out on Lake Zurich in order to see some of the unique villages of swiss chalets that front the lake.  We had an incredible lunch on a sidewalk terrace in "Old Town."  It was a part of the Hotel Kindli, which was built in 1473.  Ann had a traditional veal that was absolutely spectacular, and I had raw tuna on an avocado cake that was WOW.  So, if you were not aware, Fondue actually comes from the Swiss.  It is a dish that traditionally is only served in the winter months, but there are a few restaurants that serve it year around.  Anyway, we had to indulge for dinner.  Overall, it was sadly just ok.  The weekend though was a great success and the weather was perfect.  I have posted a few pics from the weekend.

We have to pinch each other from time to time to just make sure this is real.  We are so lucky to be living in London and getting to see the world like we are.  Neither of us ever dreamed that we would be doing this, and I can attest to the fact that we are taking none of this for granted and enjoying every single minute of it.

Have a lovely week!!!
